Nova Contemporary is pleased to present Boxes, a group exhibition of works by Michael Ho, Michele Chu, Nicole Coson, and Tan Jing. The exhibition spans painting, sculpture, video, and installation, and marks the debut of all four artists in Thailand.
The exhibition begins by conceiving of the gallery itself as a box: the white cube has long been theorized as an impersonal, controlling agent, enforcing a hermetic mode of engagement. But what if it could be reinscribed with the same intimacy and subjectivity as a box of private mementos kept by a lover?
One might also encounter each work in this show as a box in its own right, like a sentimental inventory where letters, souvenirs, and remnants lie, even after parting. The included artists examine loss within fraught sites of memory, presenting fragments inherited from their histories. The reimagined gallery gives room to refashion these ruins, each gesturing beyond themselves and constellating into new totalities.
